HOLIDAYS IN MY COUNTRY

New Year’s Eve

In Colombia, every family prepares special day for dinner, because in the night, all families are together. There music, liqueur, food, and dance.  All people are happy; they are waiting for 12 p.m. In every neighborhood, sounds a siren announcing the New Year. And all people hug to wish a happy year.

New Year’s Day

In Colombia is free day; the families are together to prepare a trip to special place. Many people are in vacations; they decide what place visit.

January 06

In Colombia is holyday; we celebrate the day of the kings magus. It is a religion day; in house every one prepares gifts to the family, and friends. It is allusive at the nativity., when the kings magus visited at baby Jesus in Belen whit gifts like incense, myrrh, and gold.

Mother’s day

All mothers receive gifts and cards. All families together enjoy foods, liquor, and dance.

Father’s day

All fathers receive gifts and cards. All families together enjoy foods, liquor, and dance.

May 01

Labor Day. Schools and companies are closed, but the stores are open.

July 20

Independence Day, all people have a free day; many people decide to go to different places like farm, parks, or visit families.

August

In August, when Medellin known as the "City of Eternal Spring" flourishes in all its splendor and the balconies, terraces, gardens and fences full of flowers, begins the famous fair or festival.

The Flower Fair has duration of approximately 10 days and takes place every year, in the first weeks of August. This annual event offers visitors more than 140 cultural events, traditional and modern, such as: National Equine Fair, Festival of Orchestras, the National Festival of the poems, parade of classic and antique cars, walk dogs, music and cultural places, Festival Memory and Popular Song, Female Talent Contest, chivas caravan, National Championship Sound on Wheels, among others.

The Flower Fair is one of the cultural events of Colombia more laden assertion of identity and the event that brings together all the Antioquia and thousands of tourists who visit the city of Medellín, converted, these days, in a space that vibrates with flowers, joy, music and enjoyment.
